global search and replace - even more useful than i thought!

i am currently rereading 'the golden compass' by phillip pullman (book one of 'his dark materials' - if you haven't read it, go buy the trilogy RIGHT NOW. they're fantastic (in both meanings of the word).). in it, he spells the word 'demon' 'dæ mon'. since 'æ' is not readily available on the keyboard, i was thinking this morning (on the bus) that it must be difficult. the word comes up very often. even if you have it set to a keyboard shortcut, you're still looking at wasting valuable time hitting ctrl+whatever to get this. then i realized that he must've typed it up all with 'demon' and just done a global search and replace in word to change it! however, whenever i use global search and replace on large files, word likes to crash. so i hope phillip pullman didn't have too too much trouble with it.
and that would be my random bus thought for today.
