i have definitely remarked upon my lack of domestic skills. although, perhaps that is unfair. i am perfectly great at the cooking part. i love to cook. if i don't cook for a week, i feel a little lost. yes, i make bad things sometimes. this week, i made an entire crockpot full of lamb stew that jp and i both disliked. however, it's the cleaning that gets to me. my problem is i can't keep up. i feel like if i devote 15 minutes a day, my apartment should be sparkly and purty. this is not the case (not that i actually devote 15 minutes every day though. so who knows.). my problem isn't time (i always have time to watch tv!), it's getting out of the chair/couch. if i sit down when i come home, i'll get up for food, drink, and necessaries and that's it. so last night, i resisted the urge to sit. i immediately started doing things. and you know what? in about 2 hours, i accomplished a LOT. i did a batch of laundry, cleaned the litterbox, put all the dirty clothes in the hamper, put all the clothes on the floor on the bed, vacuumed the bedroom, hallway, living room, and cat furniture, hung a set of hooks for my hoodies/sweaters, and moved the clothes on the bed back to the floor. i'm a firm believer in moving things to clean under them and then putting them back where they were.
as i was doing this, i thought about how the apartment has been in the best shape of any apartment consistently. it dawned on me. was i becoming domestic in both areas? i think so!
and then the horror.
is this because i'm 25 and shouldn't live like a slob anymore? or is it because i'm MARRIED?
later on, omi called me. omi is jp's mom's mom. i was confused on a number of levels. first of all, i've met omi twice in my life (she only remembers one of them). i've never spoken to her on the phone. why wasn't she calling her grandson? we talked for about 20 min or so and she asked me if i was still working. i know that she grew up in a different time, but geez. i don't have any kids. while my dream is to not work and not have any kids (i like to call it a 'stay at home wife'), i'm not ready for that level of de-commitment just yet. but who knows? with my newly acquired domestic attitude, i may be ready to not work.

In fairness, darlin', Omi's not really "present in the moment," if you get my drift.
