Thanks guys.

Good advice is always certain to be ignored, but that's no reason not to give it.
-Agatha Christie

JP and I have been invited to the Christmas party for the law firm that he will be working at next summer. Since they bothered to invite us, we figured we should go. It's at the Omni and the invite says 'black tie optional'. Yikes. Schmancy. So today, I put out a call for advice on being a mini-lawyer's wife at a schmancy Christmas party. Here's what I got:

Tim:
drink a lot and be derisive of those less fortunate than you.

Noah: wear nothing but a tuxedo coat, but short. no tails. then paint the rest of the outfit on.

Kathleen: wear something kinda slutty, but not too slutty and just smile alot
me: uh, thanks. so, like, a teddy? in fuschia?
Kathleen: well geez. if its schmancy, wear stockings.

Matthias: my advice: bring a gun.

Josh: my very best counsel is: don't go. play dead.

I think you should disguise yourself in full body camouflage and attach as much shrubbery as possible to your person. Make sure to only sneak up on people when their back is turned and run if you see someone coming at you with pruning shears.

i seem to have a different approach than the others have suggested. schmancy? do it up right. petticoat, crinoline, huge bell-of-ball dress. ruffles, lace, velvet...give all those ladies a run for their money. finding an authentic corset and breathing while wearing it might prove to be difficult, but you said schmancy. just be sure there is a huge center staircase for your grand entrance. i assure you, you will not be outdone. yes, a Scarlett O'Hara motif will prove to be very sophisticated and certainly original. take it from the girl with the fashion degree.
